San Antonio is a wonderful place for history, culture, entertainment, and food. With things to see and do like The Alamo, Fiesta Texas, The San Antonio Spurs, The Riverwalk Mall, and the Missions, you have so many reasons to visit and enjoy San Antonio. You can see my blog post here on free things to do in San Antonio. When traveling it can be difficult to find places to eat Gluten-Free but luckily San Antonio has a lot of options. Here is my list of places to eat gluten-free in San Antonio, Texas.

The Cove

This place is a hidden gem. Located next to a carwash, The Cove is a fun place to eat that serves local and organic food. You can enjoy indoor or outdoor seating and live music.  Their menu lists gluten-free and vegan options. I had the gluten free Super Nachos which were great. I loved the special touch of their heat shaped chip. We ate outside and enjoyed the live music. Their patio is dog-friendly.  The Cove offers 60 Texas brewed beers in their Texas Beer Garden.

Acenar

Acenar is a modern Tex-Mex restaurant located on the Riverwalk. Their menu lists gluten-free and vegan options, as well as listing items that contain nuts. This is a great place to eat if you’re strolling along the Riverwalk. You can enjoy indoor or outdoor dining then walk off your fully belly on the Riverwalk.😊

Bunz Handcrafted Burgers

This local burger joint has 2 locations, one near UT San Antonio and the other downtown and serves handcrafted burgers. The downtown location serves breakfast. Their buns are made inhouse. Pinkerton’s BBQ

Texas is a great place for BBQ and San Antonio delivers. Pinkerton’s has all the classics: brisket, pork ribs, turkey, pulled pork, jalapeno sausage and much more. They’ve been listed on the Texas Top 50 BBQ joints. You may have also seen them featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel. Although Pinkerton’s doesn’t have a gluten-free menu, the staff has stated that the meats are gluten-free. You may have to be careful with cross-contamination however and talk to your server. They will also validate your parking if you park at the Rand Garage.

Vegan Avenue

Located north of downtown, is Vegan Avenue which boasts a plant-based and gluten-free menu! You can enjoy some breakfast favorites like chicken n’ waffles, or a flight of pancakes that include tres leches and cinnamon roll flavors. For lunch you can try their tacos, salads, bowls, burgers, or milkshakes. They also serve smoothies and cocktails.

Plantiful Sweets

If you’ve been reading my blogs, by now you’ll know I have a sweet tooth. Plantiful Sweets is a gluten-free and vegan bakery. It is also soy free. They have a variety of sweet treats and coffee. Their deserts range from donuts, cinnamon rolls, cheesecake, oatmeal cream sandwich, wedding cookies, and more. They also serve breakfast tacos and have a grab and go selection that includes Chickpea “Tuna” Salad, Pineapple Fried rise and more.

Gluten Free San Antonio

First Watch

This is one of my favorite breakfast places! They are also on my list of places to eat gluten-free breakfast in Austin. Luckly because they are a chain, you can find them in most larger cities. San Antonio has several locations. You can grab an early breakfast enjoying one of their tonics or delicious coffee, or stop by for brunch. They have a seasonal menu as well, so there’s always something new to try. Always talk to your server if you have a gluten-allergy. I find some servers are more knowledgeable and careful than others. So far, I have not had a reaction when eating here, but always be aware and eat out at your own risk.

Snooze and A.M. Eatery

Another favorite for breakfast and brunch is Snooze. They have locations in larger cities including San Antonio and offer traditional American breakfast items. They have a large variety of morning drinks alcoholic like Bloody Marys, mimosas, and non-alcoholic mocktails. They also offer variety of coffees and juices. Snooze serves gluten-friendly pancakes. They let you know on the menu and online which ones can come gluten-friendly, like Pineapple Upside-down and Strawberry Shortcake and more. They also offer their French Toast Neat as a gluten-friendly option.

Stix & Stones

You’ll discover Asian Fusion paradise at Stix & Stones. They have a gluten-free menu! But they do suggest talking to your server when ordering. They have starters like Mexican Street Corn, Korean Fried Cauliflower, Sticky Sticky Ribs, etc. On Thursdays, they celebrate Taco Thursday where you can order from 8-10 different specialty tacos. They have a variety of main dishes and you’re sure to find something you’ll like!

San Antonio serves up great food and great gluten-free options! Whether you’re in the mood for Tex-Mex, delicious BBQ, or a tasty burger, your belly will be full and happy when eating in San Antonio, Texas.
