Gluten Free Breakfast Austin Texas

Gluten Free / Gluten Friendly Breakfast in Austin, Texas

Whether you have Celiacs like me or trying out a gluten free diet, you’ve probably noticed the difficulty in finding a restaurant with gluten free options. Here’s a list of great places to eat a gluten free or gluten friendly breakfast in Austin, Texas

Wilder Wood Restaurant – Gluten Free

love this restaurant because the entire menu is gluten-free!! Yes, the entire restaurant is gluten-free! Their website says they have been around for 18 years. They serve lunch/dinner and happy hour. They serve breakfast on Sundays but check their specials online as they sometimes offer breakfast/brunch on Saturday. Wilder Wood has a great outdoor patio. I went for lunch and dessert and will post more about that (with a photo) in another post. Everything I had there was great! And the customer service was awesome too. Parking is in the back and entrance is from the sidewalk.

The Well – Gluten Free

Located on 2nd street in downtown Austin,  The Well states on their website that they offer a menu completely gluten free, soy free, and refined sugar free! It’s a nicer restaurant and can be a bit pricier (depending on what you order) and has great indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast is offered on weekdays and brunch on the weekends. Their cafe menu (all day) includes broths, cold press juices, smoothies and bowls. The Well also serves Dinner and Happy Hour.

TacoDeli – Gluten Friendly

TacoDeli is locally owned and opened in 1999. Since then, they have expanded to locations across Texas. At my first visit to TacoDeli, I mentioned a Celiacs/gluten allergy while ordering. They said no worries, that they have a separate area to prepare the corn tortillas and marked my order with an allergy. They recently updated their online ordering system to include an allergy notification. I’ve eaten here for years and very happy with their tacos. The salsas and coffee are great too! If you become a fan, you can sign up for a TacoDeli VIP card to earn points towards a free taco. Their locations in Austin have indoor and outdoor seating. I’m not sure how they prepare their food for other allergies – but as always, be sure to let your server know about your allergy and eat out at your own risk.  TacoDeli does get busy so it’s best to order ahead.

The Steeping Room – Gluten Friendly

The Steeping Room is a cute local tea room that serves breakfast, lunch, and pastries. I’m a fan of their tea and gluten free friendly scones. They offer some gluten free friendly options labeled on their menu but The Steeping Room does warn on their website that it is not a gluten free restaurant and mistakes can happen, so as always eat out at your own risk.

 Kirby Lane – Gluten Friendly

This family-owned restaurant opened in Austin, Texas, in 1980 and has multiple locations in Austin. They offer gluten free pancake options and have other breakfast options labeled on their menu. There is a risk of cross-contamination so be sure to talk to your waiter if you have an allergy and ask questions before you decide to order. I’ve tried the gluten free pancakes here a few times and luckily have I not had an allergic reaction yet.

 First Watch – Gluten Friendly

First Watch is open for breakfast and brunch. They have multiple locations in and around Austin, as well as around the U.S. Their website does state that although they try to accommodate for common food allergies, there is a risk of cross contact in the kitchen. When I order, I always let my server know about Celiacs. They have offered to get me the to-go butter that they package in the mornings and isn’t cross-contaminated. Because they offer gluten free toast, I’ve been able to ask for gluten free French toast. My server said she would let them know so they could make it in a separate batter! This doesn’t always happen so as always eat with caution if you have a food allergy. They have great juice choices in their juice bar menu. Everything always tastes fresh.

Snooze – Gluten Friendly

There are currently 3 Snooze locations in Austin, with locations around the U.S. as well. They are open for breakfast/brunch and offer gluten free friendly pancakes – Chocolate Chip and Blueberry. Other pancake flavors can be modified – except the Funky Monkey and the Vegan Bliss.  They have the fluffiest gluten free pancakes than anywhere else I’ve tried so far. Snooze offers lots of fun drink options for brunch. There is a risk of cross-contamination. I’ve been lucky and haven’t had an allergic reaction yet.

Austin has so many great restaurants! ATX is known for its love for tacos but as you can see, Austin offers lots of breakfast and brunch options. A large number of restaurants in Austin have a patio area and if you’re lucky, some live music. Post a comment below and let me know your favorite gluten free restaurants in the Austin area.
