Planning a staycation can be lots of fun! It can save you time and money, and give yourself a chance to re-explore your town. Another benefit is that it can be done year-round. Here are some ideas to do on your staycation.
Make a Playlist
Create a staycation playlist to enhance your vacation mood, whether it’s fun dance party vibes or more relaxing soothing vacation vibes you’re wanting. You can also make a playlist for each season, workouts, cleaning your home, and just about anything else.
Explore Your City
There is always something new to discover. Visit a museum or historical landmark nearby. See if your city has an upcoming concert, musical, or play, or sporting event you can get tickets to. Shop at a store you haven’t explored in a while. Try a dance class, archery class, improv class, cooking class, or horseback riding. Make this a stay-cation to remember!
Bingo Card
Make yourself a staycation bingo card. This is a fun way to make sure you accomplish all the fun things you want to do. You can add things like, ride a bike, go swimming, watch the sunset, sing karaoke, take a bubble bath, learn how to play poker, etc. Pinterest has a lot of great ideas to create a bucket list bingo card.
Mix up your wardrobe
Have you been wearing sweatpants or flip flops as your staple pieces since Covid? Not on this staycation! Dress like a tourist. Take time to try some color and/or pattern. Dress up a little when you go pick up food, or when you’re out and about, even on a drive. You’ll be amazed at how good it feels to update your style, even just for the day. You don’t have to buy something new either. A staycation is the perfect time to go through your closet, use your imagination, and restyle what you currently have.
Have a Movie Night
There are so many ways to make this fun. You can give your movie night a theme and make it an Oscars Night. Invite people over, dress up, and watch movies that have won an Oscar. Have a movie marathon. Watch all the Harry Potter movies, or have an 80’s movie night. Whatever the genre or theme, you can dress up, make popcorn and snacks, and even decorate to liven up your movie night. Make a blanket fort in front of the TV to add to the movie night fun (even if you don’t have children 😉).
Spend Time in Nature
Sounds easy right? But in the fast-paced world we live in, it’s something that can be neglected. You can grab a book and a chair and sit outside in your backyard in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler. If you live near a lake or beach, make a day of it and spend some time walking in the sand or dipping your toes in the water. The sounds of water are sure to give you a relaxing feeling. If you live near some trails or mountains, you can go for a walk or hike. You may see some interesting birds or other animals you may have not have seen otherwise. Being in nature can give you a reboot and help you to feel calm and recharged.
Try a new restaurant or recipe
There is bound to be something you haven’t tried yet. Check out that new restaurant or try that menu item you’ve always wanted to try. You can save money and try a new gluten-free recipe instead. Take your newly cooked or baked recipe items on a picnic at the park and make it a fun event!
Watch the Stars
Grab a chair or sit in the grass and find a great spot to watch the stars. Watch on your own or grab a telescope or binoculars for a better view. There’s a great free App called Sky Guide you can download that shows you all the constellations, planets, satellites, moons, etc. The App shows you the upcoming events in our solar system like meteor showers, super moons, and much more.
Read a Book
Take some time to slow down and read a book. Although you may be on a staycation, a book can take you far away or to another time. Good Reads has great recommendations and reviews. You can save money by getting a library card. Public libraries give access to audio books and e-books when you download their apps. It makes it more convenient if you can make it in person. If you are able to go in person, don’t forget to ask about the library’s events. There is usually a book club or some type of activity you can participate in for free. If you’re not too fond of reading, you can check out a movie, or borrow/download the latest album releases from the library too.
